1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Brassleaf handles information when you use the iPhone app.
Brassleaf is designed as a local-first reading tracker. It does not require an account and does not operate a Brassleaf server containing your personal reading library.
2. Information stored on your device
Brassleaf stores information needed to provide its reading-tracking features locally on your device. Depending on the features you use, this may include:
- books in your library
- reading status and progress
- start and finish dates
- ratings
- private Shelf Memories
- rereading records
- shelf positions and horizontal book stacks
- decorations and room appearance settings
- recent book-search queries
- captured book-spine and front-cover images
- a custom room-background image, if you choose one
Brassleaf does not implement its own cloud-sync service for this information.
3. Book search and Open Library
Brassleaf uses Open Library to provide book catalogue search, metadata and discovery features.
When you perform a book search, the search text you enter is sent to Open Library so that matching books can be returned.
When you scan an ISBN barcode, the detected ISBN is used as a book search and is therefore sent to Open Library.
Brassleaf may also request suggested books when you open the Add Book screen. To generate those suggestions, Brassleaf may send a genre or author name taken from one of your recent library entries to Open Library.
These requests necessarily communicate with Open Library over the internet. Open Library may receive ordinary network information associated with a request, such as your IP address and request metadata, according to its own practices.
Brassleaf does not send your complete library, Shelf Memories, ratings, reading progress or shelf arrangement to Open Library.

4. Book cover images
Search results and books in your library may contain cover artwork supplied by Open Library.
When Brassleaf displays one of these covers, the image may be downloaded from Open Library's cover-image service. This creates a normal network request to that service.
5. Camera and photos
Brassleaf may request access to your camera to scan ISBN barcodes and capture photographs of physical book spines and front covers.
Captured spine and front-cover images are stored locally by Brassleaf. The current version does not automatically upload those photographs to a Brassleaf server or third-party image-processing service.
You can also choose an image from your photo library to use as a custom reading-room background. The selected image is copied into Brassleaf's local storage. The current version does not automatically upload that image.
6. Shelf Memories
Shelf Memories are private notes attached to completed reading records.
Shelf Memories are stored with your local reading data. They are not included when Brassleaf renders a shelf image for sharing and are not included in CSV library exports.
Shelf Memories are included in a Full Backup because Full Backup is designed to restore your Brassleaf data completely.
7. Full Backup
Full Backup is initiated manually by you.
A Full Backup can contain your books, reading history, ratings, Shelf Memories, shelf arrangement, room appearance, decoration placement, captured spine and front-cover images and a custom room-background image.
Once the backup is created, Brassleaf presents the iOS sharing interface. You decide where the backup is saved or sent.
Because a Full Backup can contain private information and images, you should store it somewhere you trust.
8. CSV import and export
CSV export is intended for library portability rather than complete Brassleaf restoration.
A CSV export may contain book information and reading information such as title, author, ISBN, status, format, current page, page count, publication year, genre, series information, cover URL, reading dates and rating.
CSV exports do not contain Shelf Memories, captured spine or front-cover images, room-background images or the complete visual arrangement of your shelf.
CSV imports are files that you explicitly select from your device using the iOS file picker.
9. Sharing your shelf
Brassleaf can render images of your shelf or reading collection for you to share.
Sharing is initiated by you through the iOS sharing interface. Brassleaf does not automatically publish your shelf.
Private Shelf Memories are not included in generated shelf-sharing images.
When you choose to share content with another app or service, that destination may process the shared content according to its own privacy practices.
10. Accounts, identity and tracking
Brassleaf does not require a user account and does not ask you to provide a name, email address, gender, age or other profile information in order to use the app.
The current version contains no advertising SDK, behavioural tracking SDK or cross-app tracking system.
Brassleaf does not link your reading data to a Brassleaf user identity because no Brassleaf account system exists.
11. Analytics and crash reporting
The current version of Brassleaf does not include a third-party analytics or crash-reporting service.
If this changes in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be updated before such data collection is introduced.
12. Support correspondence
If you contact support by email, the email address you contact us from and any information you choose to include in your message will be received so that the support request can be answered.
Brassleaf does not automatically send your library, Shelf Memories or photographs when you contact support.
13. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Brassleaf gains new features, services or data-handling behaviour.
The date at the top of this page will be changed when the policy is materially updated.
